DOS FAQ

The FAQ page contains answers to questions commonly asked of Shared Logic technicians that are of a general nature.    Many of these questions were handled by our support staff and relate to a specific application or operating system.

Note: In these answers we will follow a few shorthand conventions for describing user-interface procedures. Key combinations will be presented like this: Ctrl+Alt+Del, which means that you should press and hold down the Control key, the Alt key, and the Delete key at the same time. Menu selections will be presented like this: File->Open, which means that you should open the File menu, and then make the Open selection.

How do I start the (Advanced) RIMAS for DOS application?

The manner in which you start the Advanced RIMAS for DOS, or RIMAS for DOS, application depends on the operating system you are using on your workstation.

If you are running from a DOS command line, or from a DOS based menu program, you should create a batch (.BAT) file with the commands needed to configure your system and then start the data base.  You may find a document on the DOS section that actually lists suggested commands for your batch file.

If you are running in a Windows environment, you should also create a batch (.BAT) file containing all of the commands needed to start the data base.  However, a "short cut" to the batch file should be stored on your desktop or in a quick-select bar, so that you can double click on the icon to start the data base.  This will also make it convenient to start multiple windows, each running the Shared Logic application concurrently.
